There! I can finally answer! ( Net’s painfully slow!)
First question I have to ask…is did you recently drop your laptop? Its possible that the hard drive has come unplugged…even if you only dropped it a little!
The issue here is that the laptop can’t find your Hard drive, either it came unplugged ( as mentioned above) or it has died. I don’t think you’d need to go in to the BIOS and check the disk since you didn’t go in to it before hand.
This isn’t the most pleasant news, but I think, if you didn’t drop the laptop, that your hard drive has failed. Unfortunately, you’re probably looking at needing to get a new hard drive installed. You may also need to contact ACER about getting a copy of their restore disk.

Does anyone know how to make a Windows 2000 boot disk that opens a command prompt instead of loading Windows?
Here’s the situation: I have a command-line utility that I need to use to upgrade the BIOS on my motherboard. It needs to run from a bootable floppy diskette. An emergency boot disk won’t work. Making a recovery disk doesn’t work either. The closest I’ve gotten thus far…
1) Format the floppy.
2) Copy the following hidden system files from C:\ to A:\
ntldr
NTDETECT.COM
boot.ini
The trouble seems to be in the boot.ini file, which is of course pointing to the Windows installation on the hard drive. I’m guessing I’ll need an additional file at least (the command line processor) and the proper syntax in boot.ini to get it working.
you cant make a simple boot disk for windows 2000 or xp because the hard drive format is NTFS, but to just flash your bios you don’t need to access your hard drive so you can use any windows 98 boot disk
you should be able to download a boot disk from http://www.bootdisk.com/
id recommend the driver free boot disk for bios flashing
create the boot disk floppy and then add your flash program and bios image to the floppy and reboot, make sure you change the boot order in your bios to check the floppy first.
alternately you may find a boot CD somewhere online or you can create a bootable CD from some CD writing programs and add your flash program to that.
but id recommend you stick with the driver free boot floppy from http://www.bootdisk.com/

A log-structured file system writes all modifications to disk sequentially in a log-like structure, thereby speeding up both file writing and crash recovery. The log is the only structure on disk; it contains indexing information so that files can be read back from the log efficiently. In order to maintain large free areas on disk for fast writing, the log is divided into segments and a segment cleaner to compress the live information from heavily fragmented segments. A log-structured file system writes all modifications to disk sequentially in a log-like structure, thereby speeding up both file writing and crash recovery. The log is the only structure on disk; it contains indexing information so that files can be read back from the log efficiently. In order to maintain large free areas on disk for fast writing, the log is divided into segments and a segment cleaner to compress the live information from heavily fragmented segments. How can I put my Acer Aspire 3680 to factory settings?
My laptop touchpad is extra sensitive. If I try to select something, the cursor moves all over the screen. I want to put everything to the factory settings, just to make sure I have all the drivers. I have the recovery disk, but what are the steps. ( I would also like to add that I have Windows Vista)

Assistance in Troubleshooting a Failed Acer Aspire 1600 HDD?
Hello, I have an Acer Aspire 1600 laptop, It suddenly gave “Disk Error” message when booting – white text/dark screen/upper left corner. I reboot and it can not find HDD. The HDD is Hitachi DK23EA-40 (ATA-5 Enhanced IDE – not that I understand…), original from factory. I can reach BIOS – the HDD is seen there (Primary), but that’s it. I used the ACER recovery discs and they can not help. The issue (confusing) is that I keep on getting different error messages – all relating to HDD. Typical is to get after the “Press F2/F12″ stage in start up (dark screen/white text): “Disk Error. Press any key to restart”. With Win98 Acer recovery disc, I get a DOS prompt – managed to see c: driver
content once – never again. Now it says “Volume in Drive C is MS-Ramdrive Directory C: File not Found.” The WinXP Acer discs fail to find a large drive to install. Once reached the SafeMode options – still failed to boot.Is the HDD dead? Could it be contact issue? Memory? Would love your advice!
Hate to say this but the drive sounds dead. I have the 4520. The cheapest and most logical approach would be to get a USB external enclosure for the suspect drive (about $30.00) and put the drive in there. Then try to boot to it. If that fails get a new 2.5 drive for the laptop and install it internal. If all goes well you can reinstall the OS. If the drive is actually good it can be repartitioned and used as an external. If I am wrong the worst that happened to your drive is the partition is blown. Fdisk and repartiton
