how can i install a new os to my laptop acer aspire 3004LC?

i tried the recovery cds included but it did not work so i thought of installing a new one. is it possible? because when i did tried, windows xp setup said that the hard disk is unaccessible.

it could be that your hard drive is damaged, before you go out and buy a whole new windows XP setup disk (which microsoft pulled off the shelf a few months after vista came out, so good luck finding one at the store)
Go to a local computer repair store and ask them to run a hard drive check/scan for problems, If you have a circuit city, bestbuy , frys electronics i think they have people who can help you.

I have an acer laptop with Xp service pack 2 and it asks me for the kernel dlls.
