Help! My Vista Install Disk Didn’t work!!?

Hi there, i seem to be having a dreadful time with my laptop recently lol. Anyway, i have installed the Vista 64bit recovery thing onto a CD etc.. it all works fine, but when i start up my acer it takes me through to the “install vista” process. I select the language and time settings etc.. enter the product key. then i get an error code :0×80070002 and it says: “windows cannot open the required file D:/.Wim (i can’t remember the whole file name D:/Sources.Jsomething?.wim, sorry) the file doesn’t exist. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Errol code:0×80070002″. So yeah it says that and i cannot go any further, i have done allot reading etc.. and found nothing.

A recovery CD will only work if you already have a copy of Vista on your hard drive. It cannot install a new copy. Can you not put the old hard drive back in and try the recovery cd on that? Viruses do not usually damage your hard drive that much that you can’t use them. If you have any problems email me.

Hard disk drive, Boot help! ?

I hope you can help me guys! i turned on my pc and i got the much dreaded error “unmountable boot volume”. I insterted a valid windows xp recovery disk to fix this problem but for some reason it wont boot from cd. the pc attempts to boot it from cd but it cannot read the cd. i also have another pc with a working disk drive. would it be possible if i could boot using the working disk drive, locate the setup file on the computer via my computer/disk drive and install the xp disk on to the secondary (slave and unworking) disk drive. If so would you explain how. It would be much appreciated if you could help me! i need to use a computer asap for univesity work!!! Please help me!

Try a reset of your BIOS back to default
the key yo press for entering BIOS is DEL
but you can find which key it is on the lower part of boot screen will be press ?? key to enter BIOS.
Once in BIOS it will tell you which key to press for default settings
Also check all cables are fitted correctly in hard drive

NTLDR without windows recovery disk?

hi,

I’ve read the posts on what to do when the NTLDR message comes up but here’s a twist: I’m trying to help a friend with his computer and the message that keeps coming up is “NTLDR is missing, press ctrl + alt + del to restart” and the problem is he lost his recovery disk. This is a Compaq computer and I can get into the “recovery mode” by pressing F10 but even doing that it keeps saying that every file is not recoverable when trying to “restore” Windows. I can’t seem to find anything physically wrong when I open up the computer (everything seems to be connected) and I changed the boot sequence in the BIOS settings but that didn’t work and now I’m running out of ideas on what to try. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

You will need a boot disk (one with the same OS – it does not have to be the one that came with the machine!) So if you have one just use it (Windows XP – Same Edition or Better)
I think by default Compaqs will boot from the CD if a bootable CD is installed. (Maybe you have a bad CD)

You may be able to recover. In some cases this is actually an HD failure so just be prepared for the worst.. reformat!
You can get the restores from Compaq if you have too.
